Tinea barbae (also referred to as "barber's itch") is an infection of the hair shafts of the bearded area in men. It is commonly transmitted through animal contact, especially horses and cattle, and is most often accompanied by inflammation due to ingrown hairs.
Eradication of the infection is usually best treated with an oral antifungal such as GRIFULVIN V® (griseofulvin) microsize. Proper treatment of a fungal infection depends on the correct diagnosis, which makes going to a physician important. Before treating what you think may be a fungal infection, check with your dermatologist, who can diagnose the condition and prescribe the correct course of treatment.
